The Pick Of Future Releases

Anyone who regularly reads film magazines must have noticed the current excitement in the air - the next year or so sees the release of some highly anticipated movies. Looking past the hype and with a bit of research of my own I reckon the following are the pick of the bunch.

Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones (May 16th 2002)

Like a lot of people I didn't find The Phantom Menace to be the film I expected; despite fantastic CG effects it couldn't match its predecessors for story. If I had to predict what Attack Of The Clones would be like I'd have dropped it into The Phantom Menace mould. However after reading a spoiler on Aint It Cool News and watching the latest trailer my mind is changed. Just imagine Yoda Vs Christopher Lee in a Jedi dual and a battle scene to end all battle scenes!

Spiderman (June 1st 2002)

Despite not being a comic book fan I can join the dotts with this one. Good cast, good director, good trailer; another sure fire hit. Look out for Spidermans 'built-in' web slingers - I always wondered how a photographer could devise those and why they hardly ever ran out.

The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers (Christmas 2002)

If like myself you're a huge fan of the books or merely a recent convert after the first film, you're looking forward to this one already. Sword and sorcery science fiction at its finest or I'll eat my hat.

The Tuxedo (Summer 2002)

Imagine a James Bond type spy whos skills are reliant upon an item of clothing, now imagine said item of clothing falling into the hands of a certain chinese actor... Can you work it out? Take a glance at the trailer and try not to smile at this original take on the action spy genre.

Hero (2002/03)

A martial arts epic to surpass Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. The cast is second to non - Jet Li, Donnie Yen and Zhang Ziyi all return from Hollywood exploits to act alongside Hong Kong cinema greats Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung. Directed by two-time Venice Film Festival winner Zhang Yimou it wreaks of hit.

The Matrix: Reloaded (2003)

More of the same and this will be a winner. My biggest qualm is that it's missing the element of surprise the first film had. The cast will have to equal their performances and the action will have to be even more breath taking.
