Some Of My Favourite Directors
Although a film is contributed to by a lot of people the man behind the camera overseeing the shoot itself has a hell of a lot to do with the finished article. You could argue that the actors, production designers, writers and editors all have massive responsibilities - at the end of the day though the man who fills the reels full of movie is the director.
Akira Kurosawa
His pioneering films where one of Japans biggest post war cultural contributions. The sheers number of times they have been remade just shows their timeless quality as stories and cinematic master pieces.

Steven Soderbergh
Starting as a maverick indy film director Soderbergh has now stepped into the mainstream. Recents films like Oceans Eleven and Traffic show that his distinctive style, specifically the imaginative use of lenses, works at every level of film-making.

Ridley Scott
A North-East lad done good! Not a spotless career - he's made some stinkers (*cough* G.I. Jane *cough*) but anyone with Gladiator, Alien and Blade Runner on their C.V. gets my vote.

James Cameron
You want science fiction pedegree? Try Terminator, Terminator 2, The Abyss and Aliens on for size!

John Woo
Where to start... If action was a religion John Woo would be at the very least the Pope if not a deity. For gun totting violence this man is unsurpassed. No one will convince me otherwise. If you scoff reading this I strongly advise you go and watch The Killer, Hard Boiled, Bullet In The Head and the finale of Mission Impossible II - then we'll discuss this.
